Air Quality Glossary by Natéosanté
We know that indoor air quality is a complex topic, with many technical terms that can sometimes be difficult to understand.
That is why we created this glossary: a simple and accessible tool to help you better understand the key concepts related to air quality, pollutants, and air purification solutions.
Air Manager
The Air Manager is a high-end smart air purifier.
It purifies the air in your home and lets you monitor and control the air you breathe in real time.
It also features a monitoring system that allows you to control your device(s) remotely.
VOC
VOCs, also known as Volatile Organic Compounds, are organic compounds present in the air in gaseous form that can be of anthropogenic origin (solvents, hydrocarbons, paints, adhesives) or natural origin (emissions from certain plants, coal, fermentation).
CO2
CO2, or carbon dioxide, is a molecule that exists in gaseous form.
Carbon dioxide is produced during the combustion process and is a powerful greenhouse gas.
It is found primarily in industrial production and the automotive sector, but also in human metabolism.
Air dehumidifier
An air dehumidifier is a device designed to reduce the humidity level in a room.
The humidity level in a home should be between 40% and 60%. If this range is not maintained, the moisture in the air can lead to mold growth.
Airflow
Airflow is the volume of air processed by the air purifier, often expressed in cubic meters per hour.
HEPA H14 filter
The HEPA H14 filter, or "high-efficiency particulate air" filter, captures fine particles such as dust, dust mites, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, and viruses.
This filter, specially designed to purify the air, meets industry standards to ensure maximum effectiveness.
ULPA U15 Filter
The ULPA 15 filter (12 microns) is finer than the HEPA 15 filter (20 microns). Used in hospitals to prevent the spread of contaminants, it filters out viruses, bacteria, and airborne particles.
The ULPA 15 filter is also known as an absolute filter.
Air humidifier
An air humidifier is a device designed to increase the humidity level in a room.
The humidity level in a home should be between 40% and 60%.
An air humidifier can be combined with an air purifier, so your air is purified and you no longer feel dryness in your rooms.
Ionization
Ionization generates large quantities of negative ions; this natural air purification process causes fine particles to settle to the ground.
In nature, negative ions are generated by natural processes such as lightning and waterfalls…
Night mode
Night mode is a feature available on NatéoSanté air purifiers.
To activate it, simply hold your finger on the "speed" button for three seconds; this allows you to sleep next to the unit without being disturbed by noise or light.
Active oxygen
Active oxygen is a feature available on NatéoSanté air purifiers.
This feature can be turned on or off as desired, allowing you to thoroughly treat your room.
This natural disinfectant eliminates bacteria, viruses, microbes, and dust mites, thereby limiting the spread of mold and stubborn odors, particularly in textiles (tobacco, body odors, pets, kitchen).
There are restrictions regarding this function.
Active oxygen is a highly effective cleaner; however, like any household product, it must be used with caution.
We therefore recommend that you leave the room for a few hours after activating this function.
Air purifier
An air purifier is a device designed to improve air quality.
It eliminates airborne pollutants and limits the spread of harmful particles, thereby improving indoor air quality.
Air purifiers can be used in both residential and commercial settings.
Synonyms: air cleaner, air freshener
PM2.5
PM2.5 are solid particles carried by water or air.
These particles come mainly from combustion (fires, wildfires, wood heating, and fossil fuels in vehicles) and have a harmful effect on health because they penetrate deep into the lungs, causing inflammation and worsening the health of people who already suffer from significant respiratory problems.
Pollution in Your Home
There are many sources of pollution in your home, but they are often overlooked because they are invisible.
The main pollutants can be found just about everywhere in your home.
Here are a few examples: Biological contaminants (allergens, living organisms, animals, dust mites), humidity (poor ventilation, mold), air fresheners (parabens, cosmetics, aerosols), odors, pollen, treated wood…
Fine particles
Fine particulate matter consists of particles suspended in the air.
These particles are solid and are carried either by air or by water.
High levels of fine particulate matter in the air pose a health risk, directly contributing to a decrease in life expectancy (cardiovascular disease, cancer, lung problems).
Purify the air
Purifying the air in your home means improving the quality of the air you breathe and eliminating pollutants that could be harmful to your health.
Tobacco smoke, humidity, mold, paint, and carpeting are all sources of pollution found in your home.
Eliminating them allows you to live healthily in your home.
Air purification is achieved using an air purifier.
Photocatalysis
Photocatalysis is a feature available on air purifiers.
It removes pollutant particles (VOCs) through an oxidation-reduction reaction between the catalyst and the UV lamp.
The action of photocatalysis complements that of activated carbon, which absorbs gases (smoke, exhaust fumes, odors, formaldehyde, etc.), while photocatalysis destroys them.
Humidity level
Humidity levels play an important role in the quality of your indoor air.
They should be between 40% and 60% to ensure your comfort at home.
It is important to pay attention to these levels in your home, as the balance between air temperature and humidity affects your health.
Too low a humidity level leads to dry air, and too high a humidity level leads to the proliferation of microorganisms.
