Indoor air quality in daycare centers: a critical issue

Daycare centers and nurseries must be able to safely care for infants and young children. Monitoring indoor air quality (IAQ) has been mandatory since January 1, 2018, in public-access facilities (ERP) that care for children under the age of 6. On January 1, 2023, these monitoring requirements were further strengthened.
NatéoSanté CO2 detectors as well as a complete range of professional air purifiers for all areas of your daycare center to helpNatéoSanté easily comply with this requirement.

Your needs

Protecting the health of children and childcare workers

Children spend 90% of their time indoors (at home, in daycare, on public transportation, etc.). It is important to note that indoor air is eight times more polluted than outdoor air. Forty percent of environment-related illnesses affect children under the age of 5.

Poor air quality causes a range of symptoms—including fatigue, headaches, and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat—as well as hyperactivity and respiratory allergies—that are common not only among children but also among early childhood professionals. Furthermore, it can exacerbate asthma, a condition that affects one in ten children under the age of 5 in France.

Protect everyone’s health by measuring indoor air pollutants and removing them from your daycare center.

Compliance with the regulation requiring indoor air quality monitoring

Daycare centers and childcare facilities for young children are subject to the provisions of Decrees No. 2022-1689 and No. 2022-1690, which require indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring in facilities that regularly accommodate vulnerable members of the public (daycare centers, drop-in childcare centers, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, etc.). The substances to be monitored are formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon dioxide (CO2).

In addition to the annual assessment of ventilation systems, which includes direct CO₂ readings, a self-assessment must be conducted every four years, and monitoring campaigns for regulated pollutants must be carried out at key stages of construction. The pollutants in question are carbon dioxide, benzene, and formaldehyde.

Easily comply with these regulations with NatéoSanté. Our indoor air quality monitors are an invaluable tool for the annual assessment of building ventilation systems and the measurement of pollutants required as part of this mandatory indoor air quality monitoring.
Take indoor air quality a step further for young children and early childhood professionals by purifying the air where it’s needed.

Improve everyone's well-being and comfort

  • Provide a more welcoming environment for young children, including those with special needs, such as allergies or asthma.
  • Prevent the spread of outbreaks by measuring the concentration of bacteria, viruses (including respiratory viruses such as coronaviruses), and endocrine disruptors, and by taking the right steps to remove them from indoor air
  • Improve working conditions and the quality of life at work (QLW) for your childcare staff. This will help you retain them and reduce absenteeism.

Launch a long-term initiative to improve indoor air quality

Implement a sustainable approach to improving indoor air quality in your daycare center in 3 simple steps

  1. Measure to make the invisible visible and identify sources of pollution and priority areas in your facility
  2. Adopt best practices, raise awareness about indoor air quality, and develop an action plan for good indoor air quality (which may include, in addition to monitoring devices, indoor air treatment systems such as professional air purifiers)
  3. Promote your daycare by communicating your approach to parents and the general public

Show off your daycare

  • Reassure parents that their young children are spending their days in a safe environment
  • Help children learn about air quality from a young age with NatéoSanté air purifiers NatéoSanté with CO2 monitors
  • Eliminate unpleasant odors without using fragrances or chemicals (changing rooms, body odors, restrooms, kitchens, etc.), with no health risks. This helps enhance your daycare center’s image by eliminating odor pollution

What are the sources of air pollution in daycare centers?

The indoor air in daycare centers and nurseries can contain a wide variety of pollutants, including organic, chemical, and gaseous contaminants. This indoor air pollution is breathed in daily by young children and staff members. These contaminants primarily come from building materials, new furniture, cleaning products, activities carried out with the children, and so on.

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Fine particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10)
  • Stubborn odors
  • VOCs (adhesives, varnishes, resins, paint, formaldehyde, benzene, etc.)
  • Bacteria, viruses (including respiratory viruses such as coronaviruses), dust mites
